CONSTITUTION
The aims and objectives of the club are to support and encourage amateur radio communications and the use of computers for communication purposes.
Full Membership runs from 1st July to 30th June inclusive.
Our AGM is held in May of each year where fees are set and officers and members of the committee are elected. Additional posts of Barscom Editor and club WebMaster are also elected.
The Committee meets at least bi-monthly and updates are provided to members at club meetings and via the club magazine and website.
The full club constitution document can be viewed and downloaded here.
ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTIONS
At the recent club AGM it was decided that the subscription rate would remain unchanged for the current year at £18.00 per ordinary member with a reduced rate of £12.00 for junior members under 18, students and over 65’s.
To apply for membership just come along to one of our meetings and talk to any of the committee members who will take you through the joining process. If you prefer, you can download a membership application form here and bring it along to the meeting or post it to the address on the form.
Payment by Bank Transfer can be made - please speak to Treasurer Colin M6NCU for bank details. If paying by transfer please quote call sign as the reference.
Alternatively, good old fashioned cash can be given to the treasurer or secretary at a club meeting. Unfortunately we can no longer accept cheques.
CLUB MEETINGS
When we formally meet at St Peter’s Hall and other venues, we ask members and visitors to contribute a Door Fee of £2.00 towards the running costs such as hall rental and also the cost of tea, coffee and biscuits which are normally available half way through the meeting.
MEETING RAFFLE TICKETS
We also hold a raffle at each club meeting at the church hall which costs £1 per ticket. As we normally have several prizes to choose from each night most people don’t have to wait too long to be a winner!
ANNUAL AWARDS AND PRIZES
The Founders Trophy is awarded to a member that has made a major contribution to the club and in 2021 was presented to Brian, G3TGB for his wake up calls for the Welfare Nets during Lockdown. The trophy was presented to Richard, G4FJC in 2022 in recognition of his work on the club website and in 2023 it was passed to Mike, G8DJO for his unstinting work on the Barscom magazine which has received wide acclaim and recognition and is the envy of many other clubs.
The Harold King Editors Award is made for contribution to the club magazine and in 2022 the award was presented to David, G4LHD for his excellent and detailed technical article. In 2023 the award was presented to Gary, 2E0PTV for his contribution to the magazine and stepping in at short notice to do a presentation at a club meeting when the existing presenter couldn't make it.
A Construction Contest is normally held each year with the Construction Shield awarded to the winning entrant, but in 2021 was cancelled due to Covid restrictions. In 2022 it was presented to Mike, G8DJO whose muon detector was voted the winner against stiff opposition.
